NBC got the jump on its competitors, announcing its upcoming fall 2008-2009 schedule today.
NBC will only be adding four new shows to its schedule this fall: "My Own Worst Enemy" starring CHRISTIAN SLATER, "Kath & Kim," an Australian import starring MOLLY SHANNON and SELMA BLAIR, "Knight Rider," which was introduced as a two-hour movie, and "Crusoe."
Fans of "Friday Night Lights" can rest easy. Despite the critically acclaimed show's so-so ratings, it is returning, but not until the winter. It will first air on DirecTV, as part of a special deal that NBC made in order to continue producing new episodes of the series.
"We are laying out a 52-week schedule," explained BEN SILVERMAN, co-chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. "This is a year that we chose to do it because it is a 'perfect storm' for NBC. We have the greatest cultural institutions on our air -- all in the span of six months: From the Olympics this late August, into the best Sunday night football package, followed by the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, two wild-card playoff games, the Golden Globes and the Superbowl. We have incredible platforms that we have invested heavily in to launch our new shows and entertainment brands."
