Russell Crowe gets down and dirty as the legendary 'Robin Hood' for director Ridley Scott, and we've got a sneak peek at the exciting new epic!
In theaters May 2010, 'Robin Hood' marks a much grittier realization of the classic rob-from-the-rich/give-to-the-poor tale. In 13th century England, Robin is an expert archer in the service of King Richard's army against the French. When the king dies, he heads to Nottingham and falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion (Cate Blanchett).
But the townsfolk are suffering under the iron hand of the tyrannical sheriff and his crippling taxation. In an effort to win her hand and prove his mettle, Robin assembles a gang of spirited mercenaries to take down the sheriff and his cronies. Soon, Robin and his band of brothers find themselves tasked with a larger mission: Protect England from slipping into a bloody civil war.
"It's a huge part of English-speaking peoples' history, possibly the oldest-living story in the English language," Crowe tells ET. "So it is a big job to try and reshape that in peoples' minds."
'Robin Hood' marks Crowe and Scott's fourth big-screen collaboration after 'Gladiator,' and 'A Good Year' and 'American Gangster.'
