After completing their seventh movie together, actor Johnny Depp says it was his Mad Hatter character in 'Alice In Wonderland' that made director Tim Burton roar with laughter.

"It was the most normal I've ever looked in any of his films and that alone made me feel really uncomfortable," Depp tells ET's Mary Hart of portraying the orange character. "Then I'd come to the set and [Burton] would burst into hysterical laughter."

From 'Edward Scissorhands' to 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,' Depp reveals to Mary that he's not seen one of the seven movies he's worked on with Burton. The actor says his kids are more likely to see 'Alice In Wonderland' before he does. Burton says of Depp, "From working with him for so many years, the one thing I knew from the very beginning is that he goes for anything, and that's very exciting. ... That's what creation is all about."

Rather than retell the tale, Burton picks up where others have left off. A 19-year-old Alice finds her way back to the magical land of her youth, reuniting with old friends to end the Red Queen's reign.

Burton jokes of choosing Depp for the Mad Hatter character, saying, "After he lobbied for Alice, we went to the next logical character."

Depp explains why he continues to work with Burton, telling Mary, "The atmosphere that he creates for that set is so conducive to creating essentially whatever you want and not being afraid to try something. ... There is the element of trust that's there."

Depp and Burton return to the big screen with 'Alice In Wonderland' in 3D on March 5.
